File On Your Own: A New Way to Hold an Unsupportive Parent Accountable

If the other parent is providing no basic support, Georgia law may allow you to file a child abandonment warrant application.

They may send money after you file and ask you to drop the case. Document every payment, be honest with the court, and follow the court’s process.

The goal is consistent support for the child, NOT jail.

1. Save proof of every payment.
2. Tell the court about any new support.
3. Don’t assume one payment ends the case. Ask the clerk or judge before withdrawing anything.
4. Stay focused on consistent support, stability, and security for the child.
